Occupational Health and Safety Strategy
Reduce the risks that stress places on your company's performance and over your greatest asset – your people.
Depending on your situation you may find some massage therapies are entitled to full, or partial rebate from your health fund, or that your health fund may offer discounts on your premium if you get massages.
Australians are working harder and longer than ever, we are one of the most stressed out nations in the world. Increased stress is costing business through decreased productivity, higher staff turnover and low staff morale. This is well known, but there is also a much more pertinent reason for business owners to get massage in the workplace.
That reason is: Occupational Health and Safety legislation will change in the coming years to accommodate for aging population dynamics. Industry (in general) will have to wear health and medical costs of people in employment, as the government will have to wear the health and medical costs of the ‘Baby Boomers’ who will live longer and be in disproportionate numbers to the tax base (once they start to retire).
Corporate massage pre-empts legislation requiring the employer to look after the mental and physical safety of staff. Although some legislation clearly states who is responsible for stress-related illness in the workplace.
The Occupational Health & Safety Act states:
“The implementation of stress management in the work place is the employers responsibility under the health & safety act 1983 – Duty of Care”
It is foreseeable that people will litigate against employers for stress related illness. As an employer, one of the best defenses against stress occurring in the workplace is to provide regular massages for staff. It may be enough that you regularly have massage in your workplace to disqualify potential litigation from employees.
